Minus 75 days - We got the tickets

Since we came back from Santiago de Compostela last March I started with foot pain.  Our hikes got shortened.  Eventually I went to see a podiatrist who diagnosed Plantar Faciatis.  She said that most people have problems with their feet and most of them never feel them.  But, if you walk 750 Km in 40 days from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela , you are likely to find them.

Our walking has suffered.  On the one hand the foot pain has been really bad some days and on the other we had a brutal winter.  A couple of nights ago we hit -28 C but with the wind it felt like -40 C (or minus 40 F).  One foot is now fine but the other one, the right, is better but still hurts every day.  Anyway,  I am confident that in 75 days I will be ready.  The foot just has to get better.

The weather, well, Saturday is supposed to go all the way up to a high of -5 C. That we can handle.  May be we can do a short hike.

Wonder woman wanted a good pedometer so we got Vivofits for both of us.  Now she lives by the 10,000 steps a day.  I have been up and down on the number of steps depending on the foot but I have done a fair amount of hall walking in our condo, a lot of shopping mall walking and some treadmill.  Still, I am in very bad shape.

Hopefully the weather will get better in the next few weeks so we can get out.

This morning I was browsing for tickets to Lisbon, as I often do, and I saw them a $597 CDN.  I have not seen that cheap before,  An opportunity, so we bought them on the spot.  I guess now we are committed.  We leave on May 4,

One very important stop for us is the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima.  the day of the celebration of Our Lady of Fatima is May 13.  We have to do some planning to see if we can be there for the big celebration.

Soon we will have to recheck our packing list.  We have pretty well everything we need.  I know we need new socks, both of us had to get new boots and we got new carbon fibre hiking poles.

Last year I used Icebraker underwear, it was perfect for a long journey but I wore it out completely.  The good thing is that they have a one year guarantee so I got replacements for free as soon as we got back.

What else?  What else?

We have to start really getting ready, 75 days go away very fast.

Today is Pancake Tuesday and tomorrow Ash Wednesday.  It hard to believe that it is exactly one year ago that we arrived on Pamplona and to Roncesvalles on Ash Wednesday.

Sanit James the Great, Santiago el Mayor, gives us your protection and pray for us.
